Why Balancing Robots?
Fixed-location robots have radically changed manufacturing environments. They have literally changed all of our lives, albeit indirectly, by making cars safer, planes faster, and computers cheaper. On the other hand, robots that are mobile and autonomous have not yet become a daily part of most of our lives -- Hollywood aside.
The simple fact of the matter is that robots have a hard time dealing with the same real-world situations that humans navigate effortlessly. That's why manufacturing robots (in a fixed environment) are so effective, yet elderly-care robots have yet to be perfected. There are numerous applications still waiting for mobile robot technology to catch up. But how do we get there? At BalBots.com, we believe that fostering an environment where creativity and out-of-the-box thinking can flourish is an excellent way. It can inspire today's as well as tomorrow's engineers and tinkerers to come up with the very best technological solutions.
That's where we come in. Robotics, as a hobby, is already a growing industry. It is already inspiring many young people to learn more about the technology, and ultimately the physics, behind this incredible universe. It’s also providing a creative outlet for many technically gifted and educated adults. We believe the best way we can contribute to this is to offer innovative products that inspire and free people to create.
And so our main product is a robot kit -- a kit that is designed from top-to-bottom to free its user rather than confine. Its patent-pending frame system allows the innovator to manipulate the form factor, and add electronics, modules, and sensors galore -- quickly and easily, without requiring a machine shop or duct tape.
Even aside from this, the BalBot product line is still no ordinary set of robots. What better way to inspire folks to think "out of the box" than to start with a platform that itself is "out of the box"?
